SHANGHAI, Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The German specialist in industrial gases, Messer Group and the listed Chinese chemical company Sichuan Meifeng announced today that they have signed a joint venture agreement on Jan. 15, 2013 for the formation of a new company, Sichuan Meifeng Messer Gas Products Co., Ltd.

The new company will invest RMB 60 Mio. to build a liquid CO2 plant, with an annual production capacity of 100 000 tons in the Economic Development Park in Mianyang City of China’s Sichuan Province. This plant represents Messer’s first brand new CO2 plant in China.

Sichuan Meifeng will provide raw CO2 gas as the feedstock for the liquid CO2production. The CO2 exhaust gases that Meifeng produces in the manufacturing process of its chemical products such as synthetic ammonia and ammonium nitrate will be used to produce food grade CO2.

“With the target to turn the exhaust CO2 into a usable product in various industries, the new plant will be an outstanding example of how economic interests and conservation of the environment can be harmonized,” said Zhang Defu, Messer China’s business development director.

“By leveraging both parties’ strengths – Messer’s knowledge and proven track record in large CO2 recovery plants and Sichuan Meifeng’s local reputation and reliable supply of the raw material, we will be able to provide customers with a high quality product and distribution service,” said Yuan Kaifang, the vice General Manager of Sichuan Meifeng.

The plant is scheduled to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2014. By then, Sichuan Meifeng Messer will be able to supply liquid CO2 and dry ice to its customers in the food and beverage sector as well as the manufacturing and environment protection industry. Messer will also introduce the advanced CO2 application technologies to the local market.
