HONG KONG, Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) today announced Dr Daniel CW Ho as the elected Chairman of Hong Kong Board for one year term of office with immediate effect.
A Registered Professional Building Surveyor and Fellow Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS), Dr Daniel CW Ho currently serves as Associate Professor, Department of Real Estate and Construction, Faculty of Architecture at The University of Hong Kong. He has also been a nominated member of RICS Hong Kong Board and a representative of Asia Region on RICS' Governing Council since 2009.
With over 25 years' service in tertiary education sector, Dr Ho focuses his researches on the assessment of building quality and performance as well as facility management. He is concerned about education and standards of surveyors, as well as recognition of the profession. Dr Ho has served on various government committees, councils, and boards of professional institutions, including the Authorized Persons' and Registered Structural Engineers' Disciplinary Board Panel, and the Appeal Tribunal Panel, etc. In March 2003 during SARS outbreak, Dr Ho initiated the Building Health & Hygiene Index (BHHI) research, which has now been extended to cover building safety and conditions, and has a bearing on urban renewal and maintenance management of buildings.
Dr Ho, new Chair of RICS Hong Kong, said, "I am honoured to be the Chair of RICS Hong Kong Board, which allows me to serve members at a suitable position, as well as to give research-backed advices to Hong Kong. Together with the strict regulations and standards of RICS, I will ensure quality services delivered by Chartered Surveyors in the region and raise their profile and status. In more mature markets such as Hong Kong, we shall extend our advantage to Greater China, Japan, and Korea to provide fellow surveyors with more opportunities to expand their services in these locations.
