HONG KONG, Jan. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lenovo's ThinkVisionLT1423p LCD monitor has passed TUV Rheinland Wireless and Touch Screen Certification to become the world's first recipient of a TUV Rheinland Wireless and Touch Screen Certificate. The award ceremony was recently held at the Shenzhen Westin Hotel, with Mr Ralf Scheller, CEO and President of TUV Rheinland Greater China, and Mr Victor Rios, Vice President and General Manager of Lenovo Think Desktop/Workstation/Visuals, in attendance.

During the ceremony, the TUV Rheinland Group and Lenovo Group signed a Global Strategic Partnership Memorandum for Innovative and Sustainable Product Development, a major breakthrough in the relationship between the two parties. They now look forward to pursuing closer cooperation in areas ranging from product certification and technical issues to global marketing strategy and positioning.

"Lenovo is an innovation leader in the information technology industry," Mr Scheller noted during his speech. "By joining efforts with TUV Rheinland, it is supporting our mission to ensure the safety, quality and economic efficiency of the interaction between man, technology, and the environment and the development of new technology. On the global scale, our cooperation will also be a great advantage to our customers."

In his speech, Mr Rios stated that "as our business begins a new chapter during the PC+ era, we look to continue providing not only great products but also a great user experience to our customers by pushing the envelope in innovation." He further added, "We truly appreciate TUV's noted reputation for the strictest international standards. Through our strategic partnership with TUV, we can benchmark our commitment towards environmental excellence and user experience optimisation."

World's First Wireless and Touch Screen Certification

As the world's first TUV Rheinland-certified Wireless and Touch Screen LCD monitor, the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1423p underwent strict testing at TUV Rheinland laboratories, with a focus on touch and wireless system performance. The model successfully passed all required tests, and has thus received a test mark testifying to its certification for Touch Functionality and Wireless Performance.

To meet the requirements for touch functionality certification, the model needed to exhibit the availability of both finger and non-finger (stylus) input options and multi-touch features. Its system latency characteristics were also evaluated. Furthermore, the potential users of such a high-performing monitor obviously do not want a touch system that can be easily scratched at the slightest touch. Hence, the ThinkVision LT1423p was tested to ensure it could withstand scratches comparable to those made by a pencil with hardness of at least 7H.

The unique product design of the Lenovo display, including battery integration and touch functionality, enables the user to take it away from the workstation and work wirelessly. In addition to such performance criteria as throughput with and without interference, the product's specific absorption rate (SAR) was also tested. SAR is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by the human body when exposed to a radio frequency electromagnetic field. To obtain the "wireless performance" mark, the Lenovo monitor also had to pass international requirements.

Mr Scheller said, "We are delighted to see Lenovo attaching such great importance not only to product innovation, but also to the user experience. The company's successful attainment of TUV Rheinland Wireless and Touch Screen certification demonstrates Lenovo's focus on the customer user experience and the safety and quality of its latest LCD monitor."

The use of touch screen technology is becoming increasingly common with the growing popularity of such mobile devices as smart phones, tablet PCs and e-readers. The aim of TUV Rheinland's Wireless and Touch Screen Certification is to raise brand and consumer awareness of this new technology. It assists companies in demonstrating their corporate commitment to providing the best user experience. At the same time, such certification gives end consumers and buyers guidance in identifying high-quality touch screen products in an often crowded marketplace.

Working Together

TUV Rheinland is an internationally renowned independent third-party testing, inspection and certification body. Since the launch of green product certification in 2012, Lenovo has been a great supporter of the scheme, and the company's monitors, all-in-one PCs, tower PCs and laptops have received comprehensive green product certification. TUV Rheinland's decision to collaborate with the Lenovo Group demonstrates the confidence and determination of both organisations to develop green products together.

TUV Rheinland not only offers green product testing and solutions, but it has also made green and sustainable development a policy goal. The two parties signed a service agreement on the safe disposal of waste electronics in 2011. In accordance with this agreement, the Lenovo Group provides TUV Rheinland China with a safe channel for disposing office electronic waste products such as notebooks, PCs, printers, displays and servers.

Drawing upon their successful cooperation history, TUV Rheinland and Lenovo will broaden and enrich potential areas of cooperation to achieve even greater success and support the transformation of Lenovo in the PC+ era. TUV Rheinland's strong R&D capability and global network and resources will support Lenovo's innovative product development. Both parties are willing to enhance their cooperation on social responsibility activities to become true global citizens.
