2012-07-30 20:00 1462

BEIJING, July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Acer Group, official worldwide Olympics sponsor and IT giant, announced its latest mobile terminal strategy and smartphone lineup at the "Acer Mobile Terminal Strategy and Mobile Phone Release Ceremony," held on July 18 in Beijing. Dave Chan, General Manager of Acer's China Smartphone Business Group, presided at the ceremony and outlined the group's plan for the months ahead. The AT390, a key new product introduced at the event, has been developed in conjunction with leading global end-to-end Android+ and cloud software solutions provider Borqs International Holding Corp. (Borqs). This marks the first time that the Beijing-based Borqs has provided both the integrated hardware and software solutions for a terminal manufacturer and the first instance of cooperation between Acer and Borqs.

Speaking at the event, Dave Chan said: "The smartphone market has experienced massive growth in the past two years, and Acer's market share has gradually increased. Demand from China is particularly strong. The latest figures show that the number of smartphones connected to the internet has already exceeded that of PCs, signifying how important mobile terminals have become. Since Acer deployed its mobile phone business in 2007, it has achieved relatively deep product distribution in both Europe and North America. In 2011, Acer Group underwent a strategic adjustment, moving to expand beyond our traditional PC business in China. Acer set up a smartphone business group and established a second China Operations Center in Chongqing in order to strengthen our smartphone R&D. After nearly two years of preparation, this year Acer will shift its focus to the Chinese market, investing in creating a competitive advantage in the field of mobile terminals. It will release the best models from its global product lines into the Chinese market and strive to build a strong brand image in China."

The just-released AT390 is TD for CMCC market; 4.3-inch-screen smartphone runs the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The new model extends the design of Acer CloudMobile™, the winner of the 2012 iF Product Design Award noted for its streamlined appearance. As Acer's leading entry-to-mid-level handset, the AT390 manages to set itself apart from competing products by bringing together Borqs' comprehensive technical advantages in the field of hardware and software solutions for smart terminals with and Acer's 30 years' of experience as a global technology leader. The AT390 looks to set a new standard in its class, and the product has led to much anticipation about Acer's next steps in the mobile terminal industry.

Mr. Pat Chan, CEO and President of Borqs, said: "With the growing popularity of smart terminals, the global phone market is undergoing dramatic changes. Acer's timing in entering the Chinese market demonstrates a deep understanding of these market trends, and Borqs commends the firm on its new smartphone strategy and direction. Borqs will continue to expand its overseas business based on the experience it has gained from in-depth cooperation with both domestic and international mobile network operators and terminal manufacturers. Borqs plans to uphold its goal of globalization while continuing to deepen cooperation with its global partners and to focus on user experience and client satisfaction."
