AmCham Shanghai Announces 2013 CSR Award Winners

SHANGHAI, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai) announced the winners of the 2013 CSR Awards today at the Eighth Annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards Ceremony at the Twelve at Hengshan hotel in Shanghai.

Along with presenting the CSR Leadership Award to KPMG China, AmCham Shanghai also recognized collaborative CSR programs created through partnerships between companies and non-profit organizations. Also presented were the Innovation Award that recognizes the company that set an example in addressing complex social and environmental issues by employing new and unique ways, and the Corporate Community Involvement Award, which recognizes outstanding corporate volunteer programs.

The AmCham Shanghai 2013 CSR Award Winners are:

  • Leadership Award: KPMG China
  • Innovation Award: Standard Chartered Bank China
  • Corporate Community Involvement Award: Deloitte China
  • Partnership Award: Thermo Fisher - Enactus China

AmCham Shanghai President Brenda Foster congratulated the award winners and noted, "By recognizing these outstanding programs, AmCham Shanghai aims to not only acknowledge their efforts but also to provide models for other organizations as they plan their own CSR programs. We hope these award-winning programs honored today will inspire other companies to find innovative ways to carry out CSR activities and increase awareness of the power of CSR partnership and community involvement."

The 2013 winners were selected from a strong field of nearly 40 nominees who exemplify best practices across the range of CSR focus areas. The award winners this year were selected according to a rigorous evaluation framework developed with reference to ISO 26000, the guidance on social responsibility released by the International Organization for Standardization. This year's judging panel consists of leading scholars and practitioners globally, including experts from within China.

"Companies in the lead tend to have well-articulated strategies, good management structure and process in place, and more dedicated resources to incubate a strong culture of community involvement. They tend to effectively leverage their corporate assets to manage the CSR portfolio with a balanced score card," said C. Y. Yeung, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Intel China Ltd. and Chair of the AmCham Shanghai Business Council for Sustainability and Responsibility (BCSR). Yeung served as a member of the judging panel for the 2013 AmCham Shanghai CSR Awards.

To encourage broad participation and a diverse list of nominees, AmCham Shanghai called for nominations not only from AmCham Shanghai member companies, but also from non-member companies and non-profit organizations with excellent CSR programs and initiatives.

More than 150 people attended today's awards ceremony including government officials, CSR practitioners and scholars from the public, private and non-profit sectors as well as company representatives.
