LONDON, July 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --

- Targets 30% Reduction in Emissions by 2015

Belron®, the world's leading vehicle glass repair and replacement company today published its first ever Corporate Responsibility report, 'Reporting on our CR Journey 2010' and targeted a reduction of 30% in its emissions by 2015.

With over 25,000 staff in 32 countries worldwide, 14,000 of whom are vehicle glass technicians, and with a significant mobile element to its operations Belron® is well aware of both its impact on the environment and its responsibilities to minimising those impacts wherever possible. The publication of the Belron® Corporate Responsibility (CR) report charts the progress Belron® is making on its four CR commitments; Ethics, The Environment, Our People and Giving Back and contains specific targets to reduce emissions by 30% by 2015.

"The publication of our CR report is a very important milestone in our ongoing journey to becoming a truly sustainable business," explained Gary Lubner CEO of Belron®. "Understanding and then minimising our impact on the environment is a key element of this journey, and we have set ourselves some demanding targets."

"Two of our largest environmental impacts are the 6 million windscreens we replace for our customers every year and the emissions created by our vehicle fleets," said Harriet Kemp, Head of Corporate Responsibility for Belron®.  "In part, our glass waste impact is addressed by our pioneering policy of repairing a windscreen where possible, rather than replacing it. This 'repair first' approach to windscreen damage delivers a triple win; it provides cost savings for drivers and insurers whilst at the same time dramatically reducing the volume of waste glass. In most of the countries where we operate we already recycle the damaged windscreens that we replace, but in the few countries where windscreen recycling facilities don't exist we are actively developing recycling solutions that will set the standards for the industry."

By 2015 Belron® has committed to reducing to zero the amount of waste glass sent to landfill.

Jason van Zuydam, Environment Manager for Belron® is working closely with various automotive suppliers to extend the industry's current focus on more environmentally friendly vehicle technologies for consumers into the commercial market, which has traditionally been poorly served in this area. "As more and more of our customers choose to have their windscreens repaired at a place of their convenience'" he explained, "the need to source a more environmentally sound method of delivering a mobile service is becoming ever more important. We are currently assessing what we can do to our existing fleet and the way we drive it to reduce our emissions. Environmental considerations form a key part of our fleet purchase decisions".

A further commitment in the report is the target for all Belron® companies to incorporate alternative fuelled vehicles in their fleet by 2015.

"Reporting on our CR Journey 2010" tells the story of the progress Belron® is making on its four CR commitments; Ethics, The Environment, Our People and Giving Back. The report can be found at http://www.belron.com/About-us/Corporate-social-responsibility/Our-CR-journey.aspx
