Peak seasons for projector products are summer holidays and the end of year; with manufacturers launching new products in the second quarter of every year, and market promotion efforts follow. The 2008 Olympics induced demands that come from exhibition and conference events, but vigorous sales was distrurbed by the 5.12 Sichuan Earthquake which slowed down the projector market.

Active Presentation by Manufactures with New Product Launches

Manufactures presented more actively in 2008Q2 compared to 2008Q1,particular with new products’ launches. As for brand comparison, Panasonic and EPSON have excellent presentations. For example, in April, Panasonic launches six educational new projectors in its educational projector new products releasing meeting. The new products not only have Panasonic projector’s specific dustproof structure and lasting visual brightness, they also come with easy maintenance. New products include PX series -- wide screen projector, wireless projector PT-PW880NT, PT-PX880NT, PT-PX870NE and PT-PX860, X series -- PT-X600 and PT-X500. As one of the top partners of the Olympics, Panasonic cooperates with its China’s regional strategic partner SUMPO to launch high-end products PT-BX100NT in May, a move that fully reflects Panasonic’s attention to China’s commercial projector market. In May, EPSON holds the EMP-DM1 releasing meeting in Beijing. In June, ESPON launches G series projector in the InfoComm08 exhibition. Also, InFocus launches X7 projectors; MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC launches 720P HD home theatre projector HC1600 in America, and it is forecasted that this product will officially come into the market in August. In June, Sharp hosts the DLP projectors’ national show delegation.

Steady Growth for the Projector Market

2008Q2 is a special period for China. On one hand, the Olympic Games bring various opportunities to China’s industries; on the other hand, the earthquake brings negative effect to the economy which slowed down an upward trend. Affected by natural disasters in 2008Q2, China’s projector market did not achieve a great leap as predicted earlier.

In general, the market developed stably in 2008Q2. In terms of segment markets, high-end projects become major projector manufacturers’ focus. The constructions of Bird Nest, Water Cube drive the development of China’s high-end projector market. In the first half year of 08, MITSUBISHI and SONY launch high-end projectors; Panasonic high-end projector cooperates with Donview to provide services to Beijing Olympic Games. Users put forward more and more new requirements to the projectors’ segment functions in high-end project, especially bulb system. On the other hand, demands from the education industry remain high. Before the purchasing peak, education industry starts to sign industrial orders in 2008Q2. For example, Hitachi flagship type HCP-A8 projectors win the bid in Chengdu and Nanjing. Haier HR-805 projectors win the bid in Zhengzhou. Besides, NEC’s NP100+ wins the bid in Shanxi.
