2009-09-30 15:47 1242

BEIJING, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Yongye International, Inc. (Nasdaq: YONG), ("Yongye or "the Company") a leading developer and distributor of Shengmingsu brand plant and animal nutrient products in the People's Republic of China (PRC), today announced that on September 20, 2009 China Central Television (CCTV) honored Mr. Zishen Wu, the Company's chairman and chief executive officer, by naming him the "Most Important Contributor To San Nong".

San Nong is a rural development project in mainland China that encompasses agriculture, rural areas, and rural farmers. In recent years, the central government has invested significantly in San Nong, one of the most important development issues in the country. The government invested RMB 432 billion (US$63.3 billion) in 2007 and RMB 600 billion (US$87.9 billion) in 2008, and is projected to contribute an additional RMB 718 billion (US$105.1 billion) in 2009.

Mr. Wu has taken leadership roles with the Alxa Society Entrepreneur Ecology (SEE) Ecological Association, a non-profit organization founded by a group of well-known Chinese entrepreneurs with the goal to improve and restore the ecological environment in the Alashan League area by reducing the frequency of sandstorms. The Alashan League (an administrative unit in Inner Mongolia) is located in the western most part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region with an area of 270,000 square kilometers. Most of the Alashan League area is desert, a major sandstorm origin in North China.

In conjunction with receiving the award, Mr. Wu was interviewed by CCTV Channel 7 to discuss his experiences in the Chinese agricultural industry. CCTV Channel 7 is the only national agricultural TV channel in China.

During the interview, Mr. Wu discussed how he works with the Alxa SEE Ecological Association to improve the agricultural environment in Inner Mongolia. In addition, Mr. Wu explained how Shengmingsu improves the quality and quantity of crop yields and why he expects strong growth in Yongye's business during the next few years, given the arable land shortage and the Company's unique sales and marketing strategy.
