China Sourcing Report: Majority of mainland China PC Camera Suppliers Expect to Raise Prices, Aim for Top Export Markets with Value-Added Features

HONG KONG, Dec. 6 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forty nine percent of mainland China’s PC camera manufacturers plan to raise prices in the next 12 months. The report, which profiled 33 mainland China manufacturers, shows aggregate export sales reached US$116 million in 2006, and are expected to grow by 10 percent in 2007. Exports account for 79 percent of total output on average.

Publisher of the report, Mark A. Saunderson, said: "The rapid proliferation of broadband services has seen a resulting growth in IP communication devices across the globe. This has, in turn, spurred demand for PC cameras, which are popping up in applications such as instant messaging, video chatting and conferencing and video e-mail, just to name a few.

"Global PC camera sales are projected to hit 75 million units in 2007, and mainland China’s manufacturers are hoping to capture a greater slice of this market by incorporating more sophisticated features."

Among PC camera manufacturers surveyed:

-- 34 percent are producing PC cameras with higher resolutions;

-- 24 percent are equipping their cameras with greater features;

-- 18 percent are enabling their cameras with wireless connections;

-- 15 percent are manufacturing multiple-function cameras; and

-- 9 percent are focusing on producing better housing designs.

Mainland China High-end PC Camera Prices to Rise, Entry-level Prices Remain Stable

The report shows that prices for advanced PC camera models are expected to increase in the next 12 months due to higher component costs, while entry-level camera prices are expected to stabilize.

Among PC camera manufacturers surveyed:

-- 49 percent expect prices to increase;

-- 33 percent project prices to be stable; and

-- 18 percent plan to decrease prices.
