On May 26, the "Schaeffler–Sinotruk Technology Seminar" was held at the headquarters of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (Sinotruk) in Jinan. The products that Schaeffler brought to the seminar covered the three key areas of the truck chassis (truck wheel hub bearing unit, low-friction tapered roller bearing), transmission system (transmission bearing, damping and clutch products) and engine (variable camshaft phasing system, valve mechanisms and accessory drive). They included many signature products and technologies, such as the 2014 PACE Award-winning centrifugal pendulum absorber technology, truck hub bearing unit which requires no maintenance for one million kilometers, as well as the main reducer bearing for trucks. On May 19, Schaeffler also held the "Schaeffler–Dongfeng Trucks Technology Seminar" in Wuhan.
According to IHS forecasts, the global truck market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.1% between 2014 and 2024, with the highest growth in India and Eastern Europe and slightly below average growth in China. However, Schaeffler believes that the Chinese truck market has great upward growth potential, particularly as regards the key factors of fuel consumption, emissions, safety and driving comfort.
As part of its strategic vision "Mobility for tomorrow," Schaeffler is striving to develop lower friction, higher efficiency and lower cost automotive bearing products and future-oriented mechatronic solutions. At the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, Schaeffler showcased the FAG maintenance-free truck wheel hub bearing unit, which has been marketed for more than ten years in several continents and has a lifespan of over one million kilometers. By means of an optimized raceway, roller and seal ring design, it reduces friction, achieves a fuel saving of 3000 liters over one million kilometers and has been empirically verified by the brand on 6x2 trucks. Similarly, the reduced contact stress, optimized internal design and improved bearing dynamic load of the low-friction commercial vehicle axle main reducer bearing reduce friction by at least 40% compared with existing products, thereby cutting costs.
Schaeffler believes that reducing friction and optimizing costs not only benefits fleet operators, but also helps to reduce society's overall carbon dioxide emissions, eliminating smog and contributing towards improving the environment. Schaeffler has adopted a lightweight design for all of its wheel hub bearings, including the FAG maintenance-free truck hub bearing unit, which can achieve a weight reduction of over 65 kg in 6x4 tractor units and over 40 kg in 8-12 m coaches, thereby lowering emissions and improving fuel economy.

A truck wheel hub bearing production line at the Schaeffler Nanjing production base is scheduled to enter operation this year, with an annual output of about 500,000 units.
