New science lab and rebuilt student dormitory contributed by Corning will improve the lives of children impacted by Sichuan earthquake
JIAN'GE, China, May 12 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Marking the two-year anniversary of the Sichuan earthquake, executives from Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) and local officials celebrated the start up of the "Corning Lab" as part of the reopening ceremony of the school in Yangling.

Corning's involvement with the Yangling School began shortly after a devastating earthquake hit Sichuan province in 2008. The school has served the young people of Jian'ge County for nearly 100 years. The earthquake caused significant damage to the dormitory and through a partnership between Corning and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation was rebuilt and named the "Corning Dormitory."
Besides the Corning Dormitory, Corning invested in a chemistry lab at Yangling School by donating lab equipment. The new science lab, also graciously named after Corning, started operation during the ceremony. Corning representatives attending the reopening held a fundamental science course for Yangling students, "technology enables improvement of people's lives" and donated science books.
Liping Tang, head of Chengdu CCS Optical Fiber Cable Co., Ltd., Corning Cable Systems' equity venture said, "The Sichuan earthquake has had a terrible impact on China and on millions of its people. Yangling School is located in Jian'ge County, Sichuan Province, 400 kilometers from Chengdu. The total population of the school is 860 students and 54 teachers. Its dormitory building was severely damaged during the May 12th Sichuan Earthquake.
