HONG KONG, July 25 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Mr. David Tuffin, President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors ("RICS") for the 2007/2008 session, was inaugurated after the RICS Governing Council meeting on 17 July.

He is managing partner of independent building and project consultancy Tuffin Ferraby Taylor (TFT), a practice he co-founded in 1973 with colleagues Mr. Michael Taylor and Mr. John Ferraby. Since then, he has worked with his partners to build up a national practice of seven offices from scratch. Born in 1948 and raised in Portsmouth, he qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1971 and became a Fellow of the RICS in 1979. Mr. Tuffin was chairman of RICS Building Surveying board in 1991-92 and has been involved in the surveying profession for 41 years.

RICS President Mr. Tuffin says, "I am honoured to take up the post and I hope to build on the achievements of Graham Chase and his team. This is a time of unprecedented change for the property industry. Here in the UK we've got one of the biggest commercial property markets in the world, and to keep it that way, we need clear direction from the Government and a minimum of red tape. We have to make RICS more relevant to its membership, both as a beacon of best practice and as ambassadors for RICS as a whole."
