Eighty Percent of Greater China Digital Photo Frame Manufacturers Expect to Lower Prices

HONG KONG, Dec. 3 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fierce price competition is prompting Greater China manufacturers of digital photo frames to cut prices. "With a growing number of portable media makers branching out into digital photo frames, competition is expected to continue intensifying, with the supplier base expected to double by the end of 2007," said report publisher, Spenser Au.

"Cushioning price decreases for suppliers are today’s lower component costs. As the number of local component providers has grown, digital photo frame makers now have better access to less-expensive, but higher performance PCBs, LCDs and other components."

Among surveyed suppliers’ primary challenges:

-- 65 percent cited price competition;

-- 16 percent said raw material costs;

-- 10 percent indicated design copying/piracy;

-- 5 percent cited stricter overseas standards; and

-- 4 percent said labor shortage.

Greater China Digital Photo Frame Manufacturers Focusing on EU Market

Au said: "Many Greater China digital photo frame manufacturers are focusing on the EU market because of the region’s strong purchasing power which can help them generate higher margins."

Among respondents’ export destinations:

-- 60 percent said they are focused on the EU;

-- 37 percent -- the United States; and

-- 3 percent are focused on other regions including Asia, the Middle

East, Africa and non-EU European countries.
