This will be the Forum's second meeting in the capital of Kazakhstan.  It moved here for the first time last October, after a decade of annual conferences in Almaty, the country's commercial hub.

Dariga Nazarbayeva, the Forum's founder and chair of the Organising Committee, will welcome delegates old and new - political analysts, economists and media specialists - to two days of debate on the most pressing issues affecting East-West relations.

The programme this year will again feature a stimulating combination of international and regional topics.  In particular it is expected to include sessions on religious tolerance, economic and food security in the region and worldwide, the green economy, the financial crisis in Western countries and the outlook for further integration in the CIS.

"We hope the discussions in the Forum will make a fresh contribution towards shaping the global intellectual answer to the challenges of the 21st century," Dr Nazarbayeva declared.

The Forum was launched in 2002, in the aftermath of the attacks on Manhattan and Washington.  Its aim was to improve public understanding of complex problems, with the help of the media.  Over the years it has acquired a distinguished reputation, especially in the international media community, as a unique platform for East-West dialogue.

The organising team remains convinced that it helps to meet an actual need to facilitate further joint efforts by leading journalists, specialists and public figures to resolve crucial geopolitical issues.

The full list of speakers will be announced closer to the event.  Prominent participants at past sessions have included former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, ex-Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov, former United States National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski and former Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Wesley K. Clark
