First Direct Flight from Chengdu to Bangalore Now Available

CHENGDU, China, March 3 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The first direct Chengdu-Bangalore flight took off on February 27th. The flight will connect India's IT hub, Bangalore, with Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, also a major IT hub and outsourcing destination in China. This flight will greatly strengthen the communication and cooperation on software outsourcing between Chengdu and Bangalore.

Air China will operate a Boeing 757 twice a week on Thursday and Sunday. The direct service will reduce the flight journey to less than five hours, from the previous 13-hour journey that routed through Hong Kong. Chengdu is expected to take advantage of this opportunity to become a regional hub for cooperation in service outsourcing.

Honglin Guo, the mayor of Chengdu, heading a 50-member high-level business delegation from Chengdu, took this flight to Bangalore for an investment conference with Indian IT firms, to explore more business opportunities in the IT and software outsourcing industry. This follows a highly successful high-level business forum held three months ago in Bangalore by Chengdu Tianfu Software Park Co. Ltd.

In recent years, a large number of IT and software companies have set up back-offices or development centers in Chengdu to further reduce operation costs. In 2009, Accenture, DHL, and Maersk opened their Shared Service Center in Chengdu, Ericsson expanded its largest western China research center in Chengdu, and in January of 2010, Manulife located its first China back-office services center in Chengdu.

Chengdu ranks 33rd among the top 50 emerging outsourcing cities in the world, after Shanghai, Beijing, Dalian and Guangzhou in mainland China, according to a report which was released in October 2009 by India's Global Services. According to a report released on Feb 25 by the Chengdu government, by the end of 2010, the main business income of the software and information technology services industries in Chengdu will exceed 80 billion RMB, the export of software and information technology services will exceed 500 million USD, and the number of professionals in the software industry will reach 200,000.
