HONG KONG, Jan. 17 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS) hosted the China Corporate and Regulatory Update (CCRU) conference today (17th January, 2007) at the Pacific Place Conference Centre in Admiralty. The event was supported by the PRC's regulators with representatives from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) speaking at the event.

CCRU was initiated as a result of the strong demand by Hong Kong professionals and the business community to obtain first hand information on the latest developments, changes and trends in related laws and practices in Mainland China.

Topics covered included:

-- Latest developments in the legal system of PRC's capital market

-- CEPA and trade cooperation between PRC and Hong Kong

Representatives from CSRC, MOC and SAIC shared their experiences and ideas with HKICS members during the conference.

'Many Hong Kong based companies have business operations on the Mainland and HKICS members need a forum to help keep them up to date with Chinese laws and business practices in the same way as we update our members on Hong Kong regulations through our Annual Corporate and Regulatory Update (ACRU).' said Mrs. Natalia Seng, President of HKICS, 'We are delighted to have representatives from the CSRC, the MOC and the SAIC to share their expertise with our members.'

'CCRU provides a unique chance for PRC's regulators and Hong Kong market practitioners to exchange information and ideas directly. Such first hand information from PRC's key regulators on the latest developments and changes in corporate related laws and practices is extremely useful to our members and the business community,' said Mr. Richard Leung, Chairman of Professional Development Committee of HKICS.

CCRU forms part of the Institute's Enhanced Continuing Professional Development Programme which is endorsed by Hong Kong Stock Exchange. HKICS is also a recognised institution by Securities Futures Commission to provide continuous professional training.
