GTF2015 a Timely Platform to Further Discourse a Global Agenda

UNDP partners with BFR Institute and the Government of Malaysia in organising the inaugural event in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Global Transformation Forum (GTF2015) to be held from October 21 to 22 is poised as a very timely platform to discuss matters related to the recently concluded at the 70th UN Sustainable Development Summit. A new series of sustainable development goals was announced, adopted and has come into effect post-Summit.

"Coming almost immediately after the adoption of the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (or SDGs) at the United Nations Summit, GTF2015 is indeed momentous timing," United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia and UNDP Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam Michelle Gyles-McDonnough said.

The event is a collaborative partnership between BFR Institute, the Government of Malaysia and the UNDP.

"With its theme of 'Operationalising Transformation: Shifting Dialogue to Effective Action', this forum provides a unique opportunity, right at the outset, for a global dialogue on the concrete and measurable actions countries can take to deliver on the SDGs over the next fifteen year period beginning 2016," she adds.

Helen Clark, Under Secretary General of the United Nations and Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, who will be addressing GTF2015 delegates with her keynote "Creating resilient nations: Empowering lives", joins a line-up of distinguished speakers over the two-day forum from October 21 to 22 at the KLCC Convention Centre.

"With strong participation in the form of present and former Heads of State, Delivery Unit heads, top civil servants, Ministers and captains of industry at GTF will cement the importance of the SDGs as a priority for nations to focus on," Gyles-McDonnough added.

Core themes of the SDGs will feature prominently in the forum among others, enabling the empowerment of women and equitable access to basic infrastructure and education. Riding on these themes, the forum will focus on the transformation methodologies and best practices which have been used to garner the positive impacts desired.

"I applaud the Government of Malaysia for their initiative and foresight in hosting this timely forum. It provides the ideal platform for people from developing and developed nations to meet, with the opportunity for them to collaborate and work together to generate inclusive and sustainable development," Gyles-McDonnough said.
