Hanwha SolarOne Appoints New President and New Chief Technology Officer

SHANGHAI, October 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hanwha SolarOne Co., Ltd. ( "SolarOne" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: HSOL), a vertically integrated manufacturer of silicon ingots, wafers and photovoltaic ("PV") cells and modules, announced today that the Board of Directors has appointed a new President and also a new Chief Technology Officer ( "CTO" ) of SolarOne.

Mr. Min-Su KIM, the new President of SolarOne, joins SolarOne from Hanwha Group, where he most recently served as vice president-planning & strategy team of the Headquarters. In this role, he directed Hanwha Group's entire short and-long-term strategic planning efforts and was deeply involved in Hanwha group's solar business. Mr. KIM served as vice president of corporate planning for Hanwha Chemical from 2008 to 2011, where he led the company's study and selection of the solar business as the next growth vehicle for the Hanwha Group. He joined Hanwha in 1987 and spent five years in finance before serving in a number of leadership positions in sales and marketing for key product areas. He received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Seoul National University and his M.S. in Leadership and Strategy from the London Business School.

The new CTO of SolarOne is Mr. J.E. (Jeong Eui) HONG who has broad research experience in both the semiconductor and solar industries. Mr. HONG spent eight years as a senior researcher with LG Semicon Co., Ltd., followed by nine years with Applied Materials Korea where he focused on metallization technology. He became head of technology at Millinet Solar in 2009 before joining Hanwha Chemical in 2010 as head of solar R&D group. Mr. Hong holds over 20 patents in Korea, Japan and the United States. He received his B.S. in Petroleum and Mineral Engineering from Seoul National University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ("KAIST").
