DONGGUAN, China, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Building Solutions (HBS) announced today that it has signed an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with Dongguan Crystal Textile. Under the agreement, Honeywell will provide its advanced technologies, solutions and services to help Crystal Textile reduce energy consumption in its manufacturing process, with a commitment to save a total of RMB12 million and 3,700 tons of standard coal over the next five years. The project will also help Crystal Textile to reduce over 13,000 metric tons Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) in five years, which is the equivalent of removing 2,700 cars off the road.
This project contributes greatly to China’s green manufacturing campaign, particularly in Guangdong where many of the high energy consumption manufacturers are located.
“The contract with Dongguan Crystal Textile today will be a milestone for us and a major contribution to Guangdong Province’s pledge to cultivate green manufacturing,” said Allan Cheung, General Manager of North Asia, Honeywell Building Solutions. “Our ESPCs have been helping some of the world’s biggest cities become more energy efficient and reduce GHG. Today, 50% of Honeywell’s portfolio is dedicated to meeting the global demands for more energy efficient products and services.”
Under the agreement, Honeywell will help Crystal convert its boiler from an expensive fuel to environmentally friendlier biomass feedstock. The existing air compressor system will be upgraded to provide electricity savings of 18% a year. Honeywell will also provide its industry-leading energy management system for Crystal to better manage its overall energy profile.
“We are very excited to carry out the energy efficiency project with the help of Honeywell’s advanced technology and experience. This is a wonderful project that we encourage all manufacturing companies to consider implementing to reduce energy consumption, save costs and help environment,” said Kenneth Lo, Chairman of Crystal Group. “Honeywell is a global leader in energy efficiency and environmental protection, and believe that their experiences will make this project great success.”
China has become one of the largest manufacturing countries in the world, consuming significant amounts of resources and energy, and is facing more severe energy shortages and an increase in environmental pollution. In order to build a sustainable future, the Chinese government has recognized the importance of green manufacturing, which will reduce energy and resource consumption during the manufacturing process by using advanced technology and solutions. In the 11th Five-Year Plan (from 2006-2010), the Chinese government has been determined to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by 20%. The Chinese government will further strengthen the effort in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in the next Five-Year Plan.
Honeywell has completed more than 5,000 energy efficiency projects in facilities worldwide -- work that is expected to deliver more than US$5 billion in energy and operating savings for its customers. Nearly 50% of Honeywell’s product portfolio company-wide is linked to energy efficiency. Honeywell estimates the U.S. and European economies could operate on 15-20% less energy just by using today’s existing Honeywell technologies.
