Hong Kong Airlines Celebrates Inaugural Route to Gold Coast & Cairns, Australia

HONG KONG, Jan. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On 8 January 2016, Hong Kong Airlines, the internationally-acclaimed full-service airline, made its inaugural thrice-weekly direct service to Australia. The new triangular service operates from Hong Kong to the Gold Coast, and continues to Cairns enroute back to Hong Kong on every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. To commemorate the official launch of this new route, Hong Kong Airlines held celebration events at Hong Kong International Airport and Gold Coast Airport.

Gold Coast Airport organised a traditional water cannon salute followed by a ribbon and cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the inaugural flight HX015. The ceremony was officiated by (left to right): Mr. Li Dianchun, Commercial Director of Hong Kong Airlines; Mr. Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast; Mrs. Ruth Tate, Gold Coast Mayoress; Ms. Marion Charlton, Chief Operating Officer of Gold Coast Airport; and Mr. Chris Mills, Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Airports Limited.

On arrival at Gold Coast Airport on 9 January 2016, all passengers, flight crew and representatives of Hong Kong Airlines received a warm welcome following flight HX015. Gold Coast Airport organised a traditional water cannon salute followed by a ribbon and cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the inaugural flight. The ceremony was officiated by: Mr. Li Dianchun, Commercial Director of Hong Kong Airlines; Ms. Jackie Trad, Deputy Premier of Queensland; Ms. Kate Jones, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Queensland; Mr. Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast; Mr. Martin Winter, CEO of Gold Coast Tourism Corporation; and Mr. Chris Mills, Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Airports Limited.

Mr. Li Dianchun hosted an additional group of guests from Hong Kong to the Gold Coast, in order to witness this important moment for the internationally acclaimed airline. In his speech at the welcome ceremony, Mr. Li Dianchun said, "We are delighted with the successful launch of this much-anticipated new Australian route. So far, we have received an overwhelming response among travellers since tickets became available for purchase. We expect Australia will become a popular destination with our travellers who would like to enjoy the beautiful weather, stunning coastline and exciting activities that the Gold Coast and Cairns have to offer, further strengthening the cultural, tourism and business ties between these two countries."

Hong Kong Airlines' destination network currently covers 30 major cities across the Asia-Pacific region. With the launch of the Australian route, Hong Kong Airlines will further strengthen its international network and provide passengers with more diverse travel options.
