Mr Li said at the ceremony: "Tianjin is the only pilot Free Trade Zone in northern China, and is one of the major air cargo hubs in China located within the core aviation zone for international routes. Riding on the increasing trade and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Tianjin, we saw a rapid growth in passenger volume, which drives the birth of the additional flight. Hong Kong Airlines is the first foreign airline entitled to night flights in Tianjin Airport. We will continue to promote the business and tourism communications between the two cities in the future."
Ever since the launch of Tianjin flight on 31 March 2014, the route recorded favorable performance with the load factor being 91% in 2015. The additional flight is the airline's strategic move to keep a foothold in Beijing and Tianjin, targeting at further developing the market to an expanded area in northern China. This strategic approach echoes with the development of Pearl River Delta and the plan to strengthen the Yangtze River Delta, enabling passengers from the mainland to transit via the international aviation hub Hong Kong to popular destinations such as Bali, Krabi, Bangkok in Southeast Asia, and more across the globe. Passengers can also enjoy the efficiency and convenience of the one-stop service for checked luggage.
2016 marks the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong Airlines. When talking about the company's future plans, Mr Li said: "This year, Hong Kong Airlines marches into its tenth year with a strengthened strategy to expand its network in Asia, developing markets such as Japan, Korea and the Southeast Asia countries, and to explore long-haul international routes proactively. We plan to launch over 10 new destinations in 2016, from the very first Gold Coast, Australia to a wider range in the Asia Pacific region and beyond."
Going forward, Hong Kong Airlines will continue to enhance its mainland network while tapping the potentials in overseas markets, leveraging the blue-ocean strategy to bridge the intact markets with Hong Kong by launching direct flights. Offering professional flight service, the airline aims at connecting diversified destinations to cater for the increasing domestic demand, in a bid to fulfill its anticipation for an extensive network across continents soon in the future.
