The requirement officially will take effect in June 2008 for students in the Full-Time MBA Program. The enhancement underscores the Kellogg School's commitment to developing global leaders who apply creative solutions to business challenges and who are able to build consensus across diverse groups. To fulfill the new requirement, students can complete courses such as Cross-Cultural Negotiation, International Finance, International Marketing, International Business Strategy or Global Initiatives in Management.

"Today, it is critical that students not only grasp the intricacies of our global culture in theory, but that they also are granted the opportunity to apply teachings in a real-world, collaborative environment," said Dipak C. Jain, dean of the Kellogg School of Management. "The global course requirement accomplishes this important objective and formalizes our school's commitment to developing leaders equipped to thrive in the challenging global business landscape."

In addition to the global course requirement, the Kellogg School has several existing initiatives that encourage global business perspectives and experiential learning. For example, the school's Global Initiatives in Management (GIM) course, which was established in 1989, is a popular academic offering that combines 10 weeks of classroom training with two weeks of rigorous field research in one of several countries. More than 500 Kellogg School students participated in the course in the spring of 2007. Beginning in June 2008, GIM will satisfy the Kellogg School's global course requirement.

"A distinct trend toward introducing global initiatives with a practical component is emerging across the world's top business schools," said Professor Torben G. Andersen, director of the Kellogg International Business & Markets Program. "Kellogg has long embraced this approach and remains a leader in offering experiential learning opportunities that are predicated on an increasingly diverse set of international course offerings."
