On June 7, AMOREPACIFIC China (President Son Yeong-cheol) hosted the AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life Campaign at the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club, located in Yanggao Middle Rd Pudong, Shanghai, for about 60 patients who are members of the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club.

The AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life Campaign is a major social contribution activity supported by AMOREPACIFIC China. The staff of AMOREPACIFIC China uses its expertise in bringing out beauty, including make-up, skin care, and hairdressing, to help female cancer patients who suffer from sudden changes in their appearance such as changes in their skin and hair loss during the course of cancer treatment.

According to a study conducted by Samsung Medical Center's Cancer Educational Center (2009), about 90% of female cancer patients are stressed out by changes in their appearance. In fact, 40% experience serious levels of acute stress.

The campaign is designed to help patients overcome the emotional distress and depression they experience while fighting against disease and keep a positive attitude toward their inner beauty and life. In turn, such a positive attitude is expected to raise their will to accept treatment proactively and boost their immunity.

During the event, patients experienced personal make-overs along with a lecture by professional make-up artists at AMOREPACIFIC China. The event also helped participants regain their confidence and inner and outer beauty through activities such as writing messages for a tree of hope, fashion shows and a dance performance.

The Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club, a collaboration partner for this campaign, is a leading cancer recovery NGO established in Shanghai in 1989. Through over 20 years of various activities and partnerships with hospitals, it now has over 13,000 members fighting against cancer. This is the second year that the Club has participated in the AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life Campaign, after participating for the first time last year.

"Through the AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life Campaign, I saw many cancer patients feeling great and looking brighter while learning beauty tips from Korea's advanced beauty industry and having the opportunity to apply make-up in person. To cancer patients, overcoming emotional distress is as important as physical treatment. I would like to restore smiles to a greater number of cancer patients through continual collaboration with AMOREPACIFIC China," said Ye Zhenghe, the Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club.

Since launching the first campaign for the members of a cancer patient club at Fudan University Hospital in June 2011, AMOREPACIFIC China has expanded the campaign to Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club and Shanghai Ruijin Hospital. Through 11 rounds of campaigns held over the past three years, about 330 patients have participated to date. Another round of the campaign is planned for patients at Shanghai Zhenru Hospital on June 19.

"We hope Chinese female cancer patients can re-discover their inner beauty and regain a healthy and beautiful life as the result of the AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life Campaign. We plan to further expand the campaign as our major social contribution activity and organize a range of other social contribution activities that support the beauty and health of Chinese women," said Son Yeong-cheol, Head of AMOREPACIFIC China.

Meanwhile, AMOREPACIFIC Corporation, the parent company of AMOREPACIFIC China, has been initiating AMOREPACIFIC Make up your life campaigns for Korean female cancer patients since 2008. Currently, a total of 8,800 female cancer patients and 2,300 AMOREPACIFIC volunteers have participated in the campaigns to boost the confidence and determination of female cancer patients.
