The Yoga 2 is also the first laptop that TUV Rheinland has certified as green. TUV Rheinland is an internationally renowned and independent third party testing, inspection, and certification body. This is latest in a history of cooperation between these two firms, as Lenovo's ThinkVision LT2323z VoIP monitor, ThinkCentre M92z all-in-one PC, and ThinkCentre M93p tower PC all received comprehensive green product certifications. Lenovo's fourth green product certification by TUV Rheinland's signifies that both companies will continue to cooperate regarding IT product environmental protection certification and export market standards. These two firms vow to work together for the development of green, environmentally friendly electronic products in the international market.
TUV Rheinland's green certification is the result of many different tests performed on a given product. Common international environmental standards include energy efficiency, WEEE, product carbon footprint, recycled material verification, avoidance of hazardous materials, and other international regulations. The Yoga 2 Pro laptop underwent multiple inspections in TUV Rheinland's professional testing facilities regarding product energy efficiency, avoidance of hazardous chemicals, and carbon footprint. It performed especially well in terms of product carbon footprint, making it a leader in environmentally friendly laptops with its ultra-low carbon emissions volume.
Not only does TUV Rheinland provide testing and solutions for green products, it also views environmentally friendly practices and sustainable development as key values in the company's vision. For example, in 2011 both parties signed a service agreement for the safe disposal and recycling of used office electronics such as laptops, tower PCs, printers, monitors, and servers.
