METRO Statement for Shanghai Youzilang Criminal Case

SHANGHAI, July 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Regarding the recent media reporting of Shanghai Youzilang Co., Ltd. Criminal case of faking hygiene certificates, METRO China releases a statement as below:

METRO China withdrew all the Youzilang products from all stores across the country on Aug. 29, 2014 when we received notification from CIQ that Youzilang was suspected of criminal action of faking administrative documents and certificates. METRO has also proactively cooperated with CIQ during the investigation of this case, including collecting and providing all related documents and proof.

Meanwhile, we reserve the rights to take legal actions towards Youzilang. It is a severe economic crime of faking administrative documents and certificates on purposes, and we condemn the criminal actions of the Youzilang employees which are totally intolerable.

As the supplier for many key events in China, including the Beijing Olympic Games, Shanghai World Expo, Guangzhou Asian Games and APEC, METRO is the only wholesaler in China with all stores to operate in accordance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards to ensure that the processes of receiving, processing, storing and selling goods are hazard-free.

We will further strengthen processes and procedures for selecting and auditing suppliers, and will fully cooperate with relevant government organizations to effectively monitor any possible illegal conduct of suppliers.
