BEIJING, Aug. 1 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Marsh, the world's preeminent insurance broker and risk advisor, has officially been appointed to provide insurance consulting and risk management services for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai.

The Games Steering Committee and Marsh (Beijing) Insurance Brokers Co. Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the services.
Paul Wilkins, Chairman and CEO of Greater China for Marsh said the appointment to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games was an honor for Marsh and builds upon many years of experience in the major sporting and events sector.
"Marsh has provided risk and insurance consultant for many of the modern Olympic Games, including Beijing in 2008, so we felt uniquely placed to offer the professional services of our China Events Practice to the 2007 Special Olympic Games," Mr. Wilkins said.

Under the MOU, Marsh will provide advisory services to the Games' Steering Committee, including risk management services, such as risk identification and assessment; participating in the negotiation with Special Olympics International regarding insurance consulting and risk management; and participating in the negotiation with domestic and foreign insurance companies on behalf of the Committee.
In addition, Marsh will share with the Committee its extensive experience in risk management consulting and insurance services for successive Winter and Summer Olympics Games.
The Committee presented Marsh with a certificate of appreciation for its services.
The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held in Shanghai in October, which will be staged in Asia for the first time. The Games will host about 7,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities from more than 160 countries and regions.
