2009-04-14 16:29 1229

BEIJING, April 14 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The users of Maxthon browser and its developers are hoping to make it two in a row -- a second top win among internet products voted into the Webware 100 for best Web 2.0 apps and services. The voting process will continue until April 30, and winners will be announced on May 19.

Last year in the competition sponsored by Webware and CNET, Maxthon garnered a fourth of all of the 2 million votes in all categories.

In early April of 2009, downloads of Maxthon from the browser’s official site -- http://www.maxthon.com -- reached the 200 million mark. This figure does not include other millions of users that downloaded Maxthon from individual sites.

Maxthon’s development team recently disclosed that Maxthon 3.0, the latest version, to be due out later this year, will support dual Web-page rendering engines. One engine, based on the same Webkit development software as Google Chrome and Apple Safari, will provide fast rendering of pages that are creating using the latest standard methods. The other engine, Trident, is the same as that used by Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, and provides the greatest compatibility with pages using old coding standards.
