Viewers are set for an unprecedented viewing experience on Sony Channel as it offers some of the biggest and best shows from Hollywood. Designed for the socially connected viewer, Sony Channel will feature the most captivating and talked-about drama, comedy, lifestyle and reality programs on TV, all airing close to the U.S. telecasts, together with popular feel-good movies.
Headlining Sony Channel are some of the current US Fall TV season's exciting new drama launches: "How to Get Away with Murder" is the latest hit from executive producer Shonda Rhimes ("Scandal", "Grey's Anatomy"); White House drama "Madam Secretary" starring Tea Leoni ("Tower Heist"); fresh comedic drama "Jane The Virgin"; and romantic comedy "Manhattan Love Story."
Premiering tomorrow, airing on Wednesdays at 8.50pm, "How to Get Away with Murder" stars Violas Davis as the brilliant, charismatic law professor and litigator Annalise Keating who invites five of her first year law students to work on high profile cases, and manipulates them into doing dirty legal legwork. In the US TV season to date, "How to Get Away with Murder" is the top rated drama premiere, drawing a massive 20.3 million-strong audience. The series also garnered critical acclaim, with America's Entertainment Weekly magazine calling it "the most addictive new thriller on TV", while entertainment business magazine Variety lauded, "Viola Davis is such a commanding screen presence."
Premiering on 16 October and airing on Thursdays at 8.50pm is "Madam Secretary" which opened to more than 12 million viewers and was among the top 15 programs broadcast in the premiere week across all TV networks in the US. Praised by the American newspaper Los Angeles Times for being "smartly written and formidably cast", "Madam Secretary" marks the comeback of Tea Leoni, as she plays Elizabeth McCord, the shrewd, determined, newly appointed Secretary of State who negotiates politics and issues, both at the White House and at home.
Debuting on Sunday, 19 October are comedic drama series "Jane The Virgin" and "Manhattan Love Story" to bring laughs to Sony Channel viewers. At 8.50pm, "Jane The Virgin" stars Gina Rodriguez ("Filly Brown") as the bubbly titular character, Jane, whose vow to save her virginity after marriage to detective is dashed when she is artificially inseminated by mistake. American national daily The Washington Post called it "a remarkably sure-footed, enjoyable dramedy full of strong performances, particularly from Rodriguez."
Following that at 9.45pm, "Manhattan Love Story" tells the differences between man and woman as it reveals the thoughts and follows the often contradictory actions of a new couple who have just begun dating, starring Analeigh Tipton ("Crazy, Stupid, Love") and Jake McDorman ("Greek").
Also new on Sony Channel and airing from Tuesdays to Thursdays at 7.55pm, is the fresh US game show "Minute to Win It". Hosted by Olympic gold medallist skater Apolo Ohno, the series sees contestants take on increasingly tough physical challenges involving household items.
These fresh series will join a variety of popular returning programs on Sony Channel. Music-themed drama "Nashville" returns for a third season on 21 October airing on Tuesdays at 8.50pm, to continue following the struggles of the fading queen of country music and a rising young star respectively played by Emmy-nominated Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights") and Golden Globe-nominated Hayden Panettiere ("Heroes").
Also on Sony Channel is pulsating medical drama "The Night Shift," starring Eoin Macken ("Merlin"), which debuted as the top scripted series last summer in the U.S.; along with popular reality competition "Cupcake Wars" and dating series "The Millionaire Matchmaker".
