Highly Integrated, Smaller, High Efficiency ICs for Smart Phones and Consumer Electronics Conform to 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth Standards

WARREN, N.J., Aug. 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ - ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD) today announced a family of three front-end ICs (FEICs) in low profile standard packages targeting next-generation, WiFi-enabled smart phones and consumer electronics products.

The AWL9230, 9231 and 9232 offer designers superior output power and efficiency for increased data rates and range, while preserving precious battery life in mobile devices. These new FEICs are uniquely positioned for the enormous growth opportunities that smartphones and consumer electronics represent for WiFi products.

ANADIGICS' new FEICs offer the industry's highest level of GaAs on chip integration by incorporating a power amplifier (PA), a low-noise amplifier (LNA), a Bluetooth path, and an RF antenna switch all in a single low-profile package measuring only 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.55 mm. The small physical size is made possible by the exclusive ANADIGICS InGaP-Plus(TM) process technology, which allows all three functions to fit on a single GaAs die.

The parts are now being provided in sample qualities.

"Our new front end chips are ideal for the WiFi-enabled smartphones and consumer electronics devices of tomorrow," said Ron Michels, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Broadband Products at ANADIGICS. "Striking the perfect balance between strength and power efficiency, these highly integrated solutions enable more WiFi and Bluetooth functionality in a smaller space."

The AWL9230 FEIC family is compatible with 802.11 b/g and 802.11n MIMO WiFi standards. With available design space at a premium, they are ideal for mobile products such as smart phones, cameras, game controllers, ultra-mobile notebook computers, and USB adapters.

The FEICs require only one capacitor and one inductor outside the standard plastic package and they are designed to interface directly with a WiFi/Bluetooth chipset. The AWL9230 FEIC achieves 3.5% EVM and draws 140 mA of current at an output power of +19 dBm. Designed for lower-voltage applications, the AWL9231 achieves 3.5% EVM and draws 135 mA of current at an output power of +18 dBm. For higher-power applications, the AWL9232 achieves 3.5% EVM and draws 175 mA of current at an output power of +21 dBm. All three have very low EVM floors at low output powers making them a perfect fit for 802.11n MIMO applications. Furthermore, all output powers noted are measured at the antenna port.

The single-die, standard plastic-package construction makes these devices robust and ideal for low-cost, high-volume manufacturing. The ANADIGICS AWL9230 family of FEICs is manufactured using a material set consistent with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
