New Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Ergonomics

Jungheinrich at CeMAT 2008

SHANGHAI, April 8, 2008 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- With its “Concept 08” Jungheinrich (ISIN Code: DE0006219934) presents new solutions for energy efficiency and ergonomics at CeMAT 2008, the world’s leading fair for intralogistics. In addition, the Hamburg company will once again present numerous new and further developments in Hanover. At the trade exhibition grounds under the Expo roof (Stand No. P33/P34 and outdoor area) the visitor is presented with a comprehensive range of products that includes forklift trucks, racking systems and services for internal logistics.

At CeMAT in Hanover (May 27-31, 2008) Jungheinrich will focus on the topics of energy efficiency and drive technology. The centerpiece of the company’s presentation will be “Concept 08”, a vehicle with a completely new energy storage and drive concept. Future battery technology will provide for a much more compact design and thus allow for completely new vehicle concepts. Among other things, this translates into even greater ergonomic enhancements as well as a completely new driving experience.

The highly efficient direct drive represents a further development of the already very effective and environmentally-friendly three-phase AC technology that is employed in almost all electric stackers manufactured by Jungheinrich today. “The technology in our concept vehicle could become a genuine alternative to the drives with hydrogen fuel cells that are still being researched,” explains Dr. Klaus-Dieter Rosenbach, member of the Board of Management at Jungheinrich responsible for engineering. “It will save customers a lot of money in the future as well as spare the environment.” The integrated approach practiced by Jungheinrich is to store energy in an intelligent manner and make efficient use of it as well. Thus the concept vehicle which comes from the basic development division at the Hamburg company sets standards for the entire industry. CeMAT visitors will be able to see the “Concept 08” and all of its functions at the Jungheinrich trade exhibition stand.

Ecological Combustion: High-Tech Truck from Jungheinrich

At CeMAT 2008 Jungheinrich will present its new combustion engine fork-lift truck with hydrostatic drive to professional trade exhibition visitors at an international fair for the first time. This new vehicle is an extremely quiet VFG 425s-435s type high-tech truck. Compared with all of the competitor models it offers the highest handling turnover rates with the least consumption and has minimal impact on the environment thanks to its very low emission values.

This counterbalance stacker from the Jungheinrich plant in Moosburg is able to transport up to 3,500 kilograms, stack up to a lift height of 7.50 meters and is equipped with hydrostatic drive technology “made in Germany.” The core component of this forklift truck consists in Volkswagen engines that are used both in the diesel (DFG) and the gas (TFG) versions. The variable displacement pump and the wheel engines come from Bosch Rexroth. The basis for maximum performance and at the same time maximum energy efficiency is attributable to the vehicle’s system control which is carried out by software developed by Jungheinrich.

Fit for the Future: Kombi Stacker EKX 513-515 from Jungheinrich

The EKX 513-515 from Jungheinrich will also be showcased for the first time at CeMAT. This vehicle is an electric order picker / tri-lateral stacker. With its performance it is well-prepared for the future demands of warehouse logistics. Various modules, e.g. RFID floor control, also provide for additional speed, efficiency and safety in the warehouse. Thus, for example, speeds can be adapted to the respective floor topology. Constant position measurement is carried out for accurate recognition of all stock areas.

The EKX 513-515 has a carrying capacity of up to 1,500 kilograms. It is able to achieve lift heights of more than 15 meters and thanks to its 80-volt 3-phase AC technology it stands for performance at the “top end” of the narrow aisle warehouse sector. The Jungheinrich modular system with its numerous configuration options makes it possible to adapt this combination stacker to almost any customer requirement already in the conception phase.

From Concept to Series: The Multifunction Steering Wheel from Jungheinrich

Less than two years after its initial presentation as a concept study JetPilot, the multi-function steering wheel from Jungheinrich, went into series production in 2007. Intensive field tests carried out over months demonstrated broad acceptance of this new operating concept. The JetPilot is now available as an option for all Series 4 electric counterbalance trucks.

With this unique operating concept for forklift trucks Jungheinrich sets a further standard for ergonomics when it comes to intralogistic solutions. The multifunction steering wheel is part of the Jungheinrich study “Concept 05” which was introduced at the CeMAT in the autumn of 2005.

Ergonomics and Safety: Pallet Trucks from Jungheinrich

Another new product on the market is the electric pedestrian pallet truck ERE 225 with its fixed stand-on platform. In addition to an increase in safety, a newly developed ergonomic platform concept as well as the electric tiller ensure that the driver is comfortable with every aspect of this equipment. This robust vehicle, equipped with the newest generation of Jungheinrich three-phase AC technology as a standard, was developed in particular for quick and efficient loading and unloading of trucks as well as transporting large loads over longer distances. The ERE 225 achieves top speeds up to 12.5 km/h (with load up to 9.5 km/h) and is able to transport loads of up to 2,500 kg.

Another electric pallet truck, the EJE C20, was launched onto the market in the autumn of 2007. It can also be used for picking orders and light stacking work. Among other things, an additional load arm lift on this truck provides for less strenuous work.

Economical: New 7-Ton Tractor from Jungheinrich

At CeMAT 2008 Jungheinrich will present its complete range of tow tractors to international trade exhibition visitors. This includes the EZS 570 tractor, which will be launched on the market in the summer of 2008. The EZS 570 is built at the company’s special purpose and small series plant in Luneburg in Lower Saxony and, thanks to tried and tested Jungheinrich three-phase AC technology, it combines excellent performance data with high energy efficiency.

The new Jungheinrich tow tractor type EZS 570 is a versatile and economic truck. It can move trailers with a total load of up to seven tons. By coupling several trailers it is also possible to arbitrarily vary the loading areas. The truck can be fitted with different couplings and is therefore adjustable to virtually any trailer type.

Logistics Systems: Jungheinrich Continues to Advance

In recent years Jungheinrich has continued to develop its logistics systems division. In this regard the company operates as a general contractor. The company’s focus is placed on customized solutions -- whether this involves manual storage systems with a warehouse management system and radio data transmission, fully automated storage systems with shelf control devices and materials handling technology or a combination of both. Jungheinrich stands by its customers from initial consulting, to planning, design and system integration, all the way through to on-condition service. Every aspect of this business division will be presented to CeMAT visitors with practical examples during the trade exhibition in Hanover.

Jungheinrich is among the leading international companies in the fork lift truck, warehousing and material flow technology sectors. Jungheinrich developed into a producing logistics service provider and offers its customers a comprehensive product range of stackers, racking systems and services for complete internal logistics. The Jungheinrich share is traded at all German stock exchanges.
