ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On the 11th of June at the session of the 155th General Assembly of the Bureau International d'Exposition (BIE) in Paris, Kazakhstan received the official recognition of the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017 Astana. From this moment forward, international participants will be actively involved in the participation in the exhibition.

The Kazakhstan delegation, chaired by Erlan Idrissov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, reported on the preparation for EXPO-2017. The delegation also included Rapil Zhoshybayev, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commissioner of EXPO-2017, and Talgat Yermegiyayev, the Chairman of the Board NC "Astana EXPO-2017".
One and a half years ago, Kazakhstan won the bid to host EXPO-2017. Since then the exhibition organizers have completed the Registration Dossier, conducted an international architectural contest for the exhibition design, passed an EXPO law and begun construction. The Registration Dossier serves as the blueprint for hosting an EXPO and includes detailed plans for the project: construction, design, theme, promotion, commercialization, funding, investments, legal, future use of facilities, etc.

Construction started in May 2014. The total area of the exhibition complex is 174 hectares, of which 25 will be the EXPO site (exhibition zone).
At the center of the exhibition zone is the Kazakhstan Pavilion in the shape of a sphere with a total area of 24 000 square meters and a diameter of 80 meters. The exhibition zone will also include international, thematic and corporate pavilions, as well as commercial and entertainment facilities, etc. Outside the exhibition zone will be a conference center, press center, covered city, residential buildings and hotels. On the whole, the area of the facilities under construction is expected to exceed one million square meters.
The exhibition complex will reflect the theme "Future Energy".
EXPO-2017 will be held from 10 June to 10 September 2017. More than 100 countries and about 10 international organizations are expected to participate.
