Otis' Gen2® Elevator System Recognized for Contributions to Energy-Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability at Green Building Awards 2012
FARMINGTON, Conn., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), today announced that its Hong Kong affiliate has been awarded the prestigious Merit Award by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and Professional Green Building Council for the energy-efficient Gen2® elevator system. This recognition from the Hong Kong Green Building Awards 2012 underscores Otis' demonstrated success in environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives.

According to the panel of Hong Kong Green Building Awards 2012 judges, Otis' Gen2® elevator system clearly demonstrated advantages in energy saving and waste elimination. They said: "Apart from many green features, such as recycling regenerative power, the lift system further differentiates itself with the unique design of coated steel belts. The solution also incorporated green features into the entire product life cycle, ranging from product design, manufacturing and installation to maintenance." All 84 nominations for the Green Building Awards 2012 underwent a rigorous three-month judging process, including a thorough review by industry experts.

Otis' award-winning line of Gen2® elevator systems featuring ReGen™ drives reduce energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared to conventional systems with non-regenerative drives. In addition, Otis' ReGen™ drives capture the energy normally wasted during elevator braking and normal elevator operation and feed it back into the building's electrical grid for use by other systems.
