Overnight Winter Trip to Beijing's Great Wall

2009-11-26 20:15 1089

BEIJING, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Visiting China's Great Wall can be quite cold during the winter months. The China Guide ( http://www.TheChinaGuide.com ), a Beijing-based travel company, is now offering a way for travelers to see the beauty of the Wall with a cozy hotel stay close by. Tucked along side the Badaling Great Wall is a newly renovated courtyard-style guest house. Visitors can take in the scenery, enjoy an afternoon hike and return to the guest house to warm up, enjoy the local cuisine and spend the night in a traditional Chinese setting.

Badaling Great Wall is a popular sight for travelers. It is located just outside of Beijing with easy access from the expressway. This section of the Wall is the most well-preserved and safe for hiking, providing a good option for families. There is also a cable car available to transfer visitors up and down the Wall, making it very convenient. Hikers can walk along the Wall which stretches for 42 miles, seeing the old watch towers and distant countryside. Badaling is the only section of the Great Wall which is occasionally lit up in the evening creating some beautiful night time scenery.

The guest house is located near the entrance of the Wall, making it a quick and cozy retreat after a chilly hike. The traditional courtyard setting, Chinese decor and location provide an authentic cultural feeling for guests. Rooms are available as standard or deluxe with two-bedroom suites available, all having private western style bathrooms. Each room joins into the central courtyard, which is covered and plushly decorated. Judy Huang, Travel Manager of The China Guide says, "The guest house is an ideal place to relax after a hike on the Wall. The surroundings and rooms are comfortable and the food is excellent. Guests can also warm up to Chinese tea or a fresh cappuccino."

"We are recommending an overnight stay at Badaling as a good winter Great Wall option. The guest house is traditional and cozy, visitors can hike on the Wall and there are also other activities close by," adds Huang. There is a spa a short distance away which is open from the afternoon until late at night where guests can enjoy hot spring baths and even bathe in pools of fish. Other sights in the area include hiking on a remote section of the wild Wall (for those who love hiking), a visit to Dragon Gorge and an ancient village of caves. Dragon Gorge has picturesque scenery and guests can take a boat ride along the river. A favorite attraction, especially for kids, is one of the world's longest stretch of escalators, decorated as a dragon. The ancient cave dwellings can be found in the hillside, visitors can walk through to explore.
