New award categories to attract more quality projects across Asia Pacific
HONG KONG, June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Jointly-organized by nine building and construction related institutes and associations, the Organizing Committee of Quality Building Award 2012 (QBA 2012) announced the official opening of the award program for nomination starting tomorrow (1st July 2011). Nomination period will be closed by 14th October 2011 (Friday) at 12 noon. This biennial Award has been capturing a lot of attention in Hong Kong and from Asia Pacific cities for over 10 years. Now, the 6th episode of the Award with the theme on Building Excellence for the Future has entered its final stage of preparations. QBA 2012 is chaired by the Structural Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, with Ir Dr. Eddie Lam, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University chairing the Organizing Committee.
The six award categories of QBA 2012, which is applicable for nominations, include:
Categories | Nomination Requirements |
1) Hong Kong Residential (Single Building) |
-- Nominated single building must be a single independent structure not part of a complex containing other buildings. -- Major function of the nominated building should be for residential use. |
2) Hong Kong Residential (Multiple Buildings) |
-- Nominated multiple buildings must be a group of buildings of similar kinds, which form a residential complex. -- Major function of the nominated multiple buildings should be for residential use. |
3) Hong Kong Non-Residential (New Building) |
-- Major function of the nominated new building must be for non-residential use or include non-residential use. |
4) Hong Kong Non-Residential (Renovation and Revitalization of Existing Building) | -- Nominated existing building must have undergone and completed a renovation, restoration, revitalization or similar process to its physical structure. -- Major function of the nominated existing building should be for non-residential use. |
5) Project Outside Hong Kong (Residential) |
-- Nomination must be outside the territorial limits of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. -- Major function of the nominated building should be for residential use. -- Nomination must be made by the project team. -- At least one member of the project team must be a registered member of any of the nine professional organizing institutes of QBA 2012. |
6) Project Outside Hong Kong (Non-Residential) | -- Nomination must be outside the territorial limits of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. -- Major function of the nominated building should be for non-residential use. -- Nomination must be made by the project team. -- At least one member of the project team must be a registered member of any of the nine professional organizing institutes of QBA 2012. |
*Nominated buildings should be practically completed in the period between 1 January 2009 and 30 June 2011.
Classes of awards upon selection by Jury Panel:
Award Type | Description |
Quality Excellence Award | The Quality Excellence Award will be presented to one project within the territorial limits of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with outstanding overall quality and best among all the nominations. |
Quality Building Awards | There will be one Quality Building Award Winner for each nomination category. |
Merits | There will be recognition of merit(s) for each nomination category. |
Special Awards | Winners will be selected by the Jury Panel among the finalists for recognition of quality work by the project teams. Special Award will be given to the following: -- Quality Architect Award -- Quality Building Services Engineer Award -- Quality Building Surveyor Award -- Quality Main Contractor Award -- Quality Property and Facility Manager Award -- Quality Quantity Surveyor Award -- Quality Structural Engineer Award |
** Quality Excellence Award and Special Awards are only to be selected by Jury Panel among finalists who have entered final stage of jury process.
