HONG KONG, Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SalumiAmo, an Italian initiative to celebrate, share and raise awareness of Italy's mouthwatering specialty cured meats, is making its debut in Hong Kong and Macau from 15 November to 6 December 2013.

Salumi -- Italian cured meats which include prosciutto crudo, prosciutto cotto, salami, mortadella, pancetta e coppa -- are a delicious part of the country's ancient food heritage. Hot on the heels of a successful tour in the US, UK and other countries in Europe, SalumiAmo offers gourmands the opportunity to taste, learn and explore the cultural and historical traditions of La Bella Italia at an unprecedented number of events in Hong Kong and Macau. These include launch parties, salumi master classes led by Italian Chef Fabio Ugoletti, salumi tastings at local restaurants and exclusive retail promotions.

Celebrating the evolution of salumi from traditional appetiser to trendy aperitif, SalumiAmo aims to inspire foodies in both cities with its Italian commitment to tradition, expertise and taste. SalumiAmo also promotes the quality and traditions of PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) certified salumi -- official marks which are only granted to products that follow centuries-old traditions and comply with strict production rules in specific geographic areas.

At the launch party held at Isola on 19 November, acclaimed Italian Chef Fabio Ugoletti will introduce and present delectable cuts of the finest Italian cured meats for guests to savour and enjoy. To raise awareness of the origins and traditions of salumi, Chef Fabio Ugoletti will also host two master classes at the Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), Hong Kong and two master classes at the Institute for Tourism Studies, Macao. Chef Fabio Ugoletti will share the secret traditions, production methods and characteristics of each delicacy.

Ten Italian restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau will celebrate the spirit of SalumiAmo with special tasting evenings. Guests can sample a variety of salumi at Aqua Spirit, Aqua Armani and Giando from 20-22 November; DiVino, DiVino Patio and Spasso from 27-29 November; Domani, Gaia and Joia from 4-6 December, and Aurora at Altira Macau from the 24-27 and 29 November.

During the promotion period, salumi fans can take home their very own taste of Italy at several selected Aeon stores and City'Super outlets, which will offer an unparalleled range of the freshest Italian salumi.

SalumiAmo aims to share the spirit of la dolce vita with Hong Kong and Macau with a healthy dose of Italian passion, commitment to quality and respect for tradition.

The Italian Trade Commission (ICE) is a government appointed organization, and aims to promote the internationalisation of Italian entrepreneurs, providing a range of services to connect Italian and foreign business.

Istituto Valorizzazione Salumi Italiani (IVSI) is a non-profitable organization founded in 1985, focusing on the enhancement of Italian cured meats. The organisation aims to spread knowledge of Italian culture and heritage.
