Turnitin Used by All Higher Education Institutions in Singapore

OAKLAND, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- iParadigms, creator of Turnitin and the leader in originality checking and plagiarism prevention, announced that Turnitin has been adopted by all four universities in Singapore. Turnitin is used across the universities' curricula and is available to tens of thousands of educators and students.

"We're committed to maintaining the highest academic standards and providing world-class education to our students," said Mr Ravi Chandran, Director for the Centre for Instructional Technology, National University of Singapore. "As the recognized leader in the field of originality checking, Turnitin plays an important part in that mission."

"Singapore is renowned as a global center of technology and manufacturing," said Chris Caren, iParadigms president and CEO. "We're pleased to be able to make a contribution to educating the next generation of Singaporean professionals."

The institutions using Turnitin include Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU) and SIM University (UniSIM). These universities have deployed Turnitin as part of their integrated learning management systems, used to manage courses and track student performance.

At the National University of Singapore (NUS), where Turnitin has been used since 2002, Associate Professor Brian Farrell in the Department of History states, "In my own experience with Turnitin, I have found it to be useful in doing four important things: categorically exposing crude and massive plagiarism; providing a graphic illustration of general student practices regarding the use of sources and the composition of research essays; providing a graphic teaching aid to instruct students on the problem of cut and paste; and sending a general signal about plagiarism, academic culture and responsibilities."

iParadigms products including Turnitin are sold across Asia by iGroup, iParadigms' reseller in the region. Turnitin has become the world standard in originality checking and plagiarism prevention, and is currently used by over a half-million educators and millions of students. Turnitin is available in 10 languages including Malay, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese.
