TAIPEI, March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company" which, together with its subsidiaries and its affiliates, is referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited figures for shipments of handsets and other products in February and the first two months of 2015.
The Group's total sales volume of handsets and other products increased by 18% year-on-year to 4,427,000 units in February 2015. Sales volume of handsets and other products in the overseas markets increased by 14% year-on-year to 3,971,000 units, while shipments in the China market totaled 456,000 units. Sales volume of smartphones and other smart devices surged by 59% year-on-year to 2,757,000 units, and accounted for 62% of the Group's total shipments for the month. For the first two months of 2015, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 10,168,000 units, with sales volume in the overseas markets increased by 3% year-on-year to 8,572,000 units, and that in the China market totalling 1,595,000 units.
ALCATEL ONETOUCH introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 a number of new products that attracted immense interests in the market . Of these, IDOL 3 won four major awards including Pick MWC 2015 by Mashable, Android Authority and Android Central as well as Best of MWC 2015 by Know Your Mobile due to its advanced hardware configuration and unique design of free revolve. It is available in two sizes, 4.7" and 5.5", and surprised the market with its two front-facing speakers certified by JBL and Clari-Fi technology. The orientation free UI and dual microphones enable users to answer a call even when the phone is upside down. The two front speakers also give a 3D surround-sound effect, offering users a premium audio experience. Meanwhile, ALCATEL ONETOUCH showcased its award-winning smartwatch ALCATEL ONETOUCH WATCH. While offering multiple functions and styles, the WATCH supports both Android and iOS via Bluetooth and NFC. It is dust and water-resistant with long battery life up to 2-5 days depending on the level of usage. The USB charger is integrated to its band for a seamless and fast charging. Moreover, the PIXI family also welcomed newest members including PIXI 3 5.5" smartphone and PIXI 3 a 7'' tablet.
The new 4G flagship products, IDOL 3 (4.7") and IDOL 3 (5.5") won four major awards at MWC2015, featuring a symmetrical design allowing users to answer calls at both ends of the device.
To further enhance its technology as part of its transformation strategy to promote no-holds-barred innovations in products, TCL Communication has established a 5G research lab in France and partnered with the French chipmaker Sequans Communications, a leader in 4G chipsets which has previously brought many innovative products and technologies to the market, for a collaboration on the development of the next-generation 5G wireless technologies. The joint research effort is aimed at accelerating the development of 5G telecommunications, focusing on meeting end-user expectations, requirements and needs, and enabling emergence of more diverse and advanced smart devices. The combined team is expected to promote innovation in the industry and significantly enhance the Group's competitiveness in coming years.
