AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --

  • TI Automotive to provide fuel tank systems to five different Volkswagen Group vehicles.
  • Program includes six million plastic fuel filler pipes.
  • TI Automotive to provide the fuel tank systems from plants in Germany and Spain.

TI Automotive, a leading automotive supplier of fluid storage, carrying and delivery technology, has been named the fuel systems supplier for up to three million Volkswagen Group vehicles, beginning in 2011. The program also includes the development and production of six million fuel filler pipes.

The fuel tank systems will be produced at TI Automotive facilities in Ettlingen and Rastatt, Germany, and Pamplona, Spain, and installed on five different Audi, Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda vehicles.

System variants will include Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) and Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) for gasoline and diesel applications.

The fuel filler pipes will be manufactured at a new TI Automotive facility in the Czech Republic and shipped to the different final assembly locations.

"We have enjoyed a cooperative, long-standing relationship with Volkswagen on a global level," said Bill Kozyra, chairman, CEO and president of TI Automotive. "Through this new program, we will continue developing innovative, lightweight fuel tank systems that will reduce emissions and help Volkswagen meet its goal of becoming the world's largest automaker."

TI Automotive currently supplies fuel tank systems to the Volkswagen Passat in Asia, and the Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Caddy in Europe. During the next year, TI Automotive will begin production on two new programs: the Volkswagen sedan in North America and the Audi Q3 in Spain.

TI Automotive set the standard for plastic fuel tank technology and emissions with its 2009 Automotive News PACE Award-winning Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) plastic fuel tank. Its unique design and production method incorporate all internal components into the tank prior to construction, reducing fuel vapor permeation paths and significantly reducing evaporative emissions.
