HONG KONG, April 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On 13 March, TUV Rheinland Hong Kong and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) held their first Bluetooth technical seminar in 2014, during which the Bluetooth Core Specification updates announced last December (Bluetooth 4.1) were introduced. Bluetooth 4.1 is an important evolutionary update to the wireless specification, which sustained a revolutionary update in July 2010 with Bluetooth Smart -- an intelligent, low-energy technology enabling the Internet of Things. The seminar attracted around 100 participants. In addition to introducing Bluetooth 4.1 and the related technical updates from the Bluetooth SIG, TUV Rheinland's Bluetooth Qualification Expert (BQE) explained the updated Bluetooth qualification process.

Representatives from the Bluetooth SIG predicted that use of Bluetooth devices will triple in 2020 to 30 billion units. Bluetooth 4.1 will improve consumer usability with increased co-existence support for LTE and bulk data exchange rates while aiding developer innovation by allowing devices to support multiple roles simultaneously. With this new capability, a single device can simultaneously act as both a Bluetooth Smart peripheral and a Bluetooth Smart Ready hub. The innovation will allow product developers to create ubiquitous user experiences for the new Bluetooth product.

Following the introduction of the new standard, the Bluetooth SIG announced the revised Product Listing Process and Fee Structure. Effective 1 February 2014, a streamlined Bluetooth® qualification and listing process and revised fee structure were put in place. TUV Rheinland Hong Kong's Bluetooth testing laboratory is the first and only qualified Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility in Hong Kong, and its representatives offered a detailed explanation of the changes and their effects on the company. TUV Rheinland Hong Kong's professionalism supports its clients in developing wireless technology by providing a wide range of testing and certification services.
