Telairity Forms Consortium to Develop and Deploy AVS Encoders for China

BEIJING, March 23 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Telairity, a global leader in encoding technology, announced today it has executed agreements forming a consortium in The People’s Republic of China to design, manufacture and sell systems throughout the country based on China’s AVS encoding standard. The market is estimated to be over 300 broadcasters, more than 2000 MSOs, and about 3,000 TV stations. Equipment currently in the final stage of testing and certification includes Telairity’s high definition and standard definition broadcast-quality encoders based on AVS, set-top boxes and end-to-end AVS based solutions. "AVS" is China’s equivalent of the advanced H.264/AVC video compression standard.

Telairity’s partners in China include Hansun Technology Corporation and Communications University of China, College of Information Technology (CUC), both located in Beijing.

The agreement was announced by Ben Silva, Senior VP of Worldwide Sales and Business Development, and is effective immediately. Telairity will manufacture the AVS HD/SD encoders and video processor chip as well as jointly handle national marketing and sales for China. In addition to the Telairity video processor and encoders, the entire end-to-end AVS platform includes software and hardware AVS decoders, set top boxes, multiplexers, IRDs and mobile gear.

The agreement also calls on Telairity to work jointly work with CUC for the countrywide deployment and certification of AVS based systems. CUC will also become the premier training facility for Telairity, as well as provide PhD-level engineering students to help develop AVS products. CUC is widely regarded as the cradle of China’s elite in radio, television, film and communication.

Hansun shall be responsible for developing the non-encoder products. Hansun specializes in technologies and solutions for IPTV, triple-play, and in-home multimedia distribution worldwide.
