SHANGHAI, March 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 17th Hortiflorexpo IPM Shanghai (HIS), Asia's largest floricultural, horticultural and garden trade show, will be held from April 22 to 24, 2015 in Shanghai New International Expo Center.

Organized by China Flower Association, HIS is originally called Hortiflorexpo China. To enhance its reputation around the world, starting from 2012, the organizer, China Flower Assocation, has cooperated with Messe Essen to change its name from "Hortiflorexpo China" to "Hortiflorexpo IPM Shanghai (HIS)" and "Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing (HIB)".

Features of HIS/HIB:

  1. It is the earliest trade show of floriculture, horticulture and garden industry in China
  2. It is Asian largest official trade show in the floricultural, horticultural and garden industries
  3. One year in Shanghai and the other in Beijing, always in April

Some Industry background information:

1. China is one of the biggest flower production countries in the world

China, with its planting area for floricultural industry account for over 30% of the world, is among one of the biggest flower production countries in the world. Various climate conditions make it possible to find ideal planting area in China for different plants in the world.

2. China has a big market potential

Chinese flower sales only accounts for 1% of the world which differs greatly from its industry size and the fact that Chinese trade accounts for 9% of the whole world. There are still great opportunities for companies who would like to seek business opportunities in this fast growing market.

Just before Valentines' Day, 2015, the Activity called "Love from Holland" was organized and co-organized by Holland Embassy, and Alibaba, 500,000 stems of Tulips imported from Holland have been sold out in mere 72 hours. During Mother's Day, cooperated with Tmall to succeed in selling out 160,000 stems cut flowers. On Nov. 11, 2015, (11th in the 11th month, because 1111 may best describe the lonely feeling of the single, a festival was been successfully created several years ago by E-commerce websites to encourage single persons to consume on that day.),'s sales volume of cut flowers increased at least 20 times of that of 2014.

3. Opportunities brought by Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ)

Set up in September, 2013, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone is one of the moves seeking to free up the overloaded administrative approval system. A series of customs clearance and supervision policies have also been initiated to offer more complete, convenient and transparent foreign trade services to create an efficient market environment for domestic and foreign enterprises.

According to Shanghai Customs, Imports via Shanghai FTZ surged to a record last year. The Shanghai zone received imported consumer goods worth 114.26 billion yuan (US$18.3 billion) in 2014, rising 21.4 percent from a year earlier. That was 10.7 percentage points quicker than the growth in 2013.

Just like the pilot program of parallel imports of cars, which allows end users to purchase imported cars in FTZ at a cheaper price, say, at least 15% cheaper, we have reasons to believe Luxury or high end horticultural, floricultural companies or dealers must benefit greatly from Shanghai FTZ in a long run.
