Showcasing the Most and Best of Computer Game Culture and Development in the World

HONG KONG, July 19 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Game On is the first major exhibition in Asia to explore the vibrant history and culture of computer games. Focusing on key developments between 1962 and the present day, it takes an in-depth look at gaming's fascinating past and limitless future. Building on the great success of previous tours in Europe and North America, Game On will be staged at Cyberport this year from 21 July to 7 October.

In recent years, the improvement in Taiwan and Hong Kong's local game development is obviously catching up with the international pace. Meanwhile, Mainland China is also generating a revolutionary beginning in the creative games industry. The amount of mainland game consumers is increasing day by day, at a surprising pace. As a liaising platform for Asia, and the greater China region, Hong Kong maintains an influential role in the game development industry.

"The creative game industry has now been developing for more than four decades. The industry has been developing at a surprisingly fast pace, whether in terms of technology or popularisation," commented Mr. Nicholas Yang, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company. "Cyberport, being the digital entertainment hub in Hong Kong, will bring Game On to the Hong Kong public to experience gaming from the world's first computer game to the latest game systems for the first time ever. I think this is a valuable opportunity for Hong Kong game lovers and family groups to visit this world-class exhibition."

Game On is suitable for players of all ages, which will showcase more than 120 classic and modern games, in more than 10 areas of interests in the exhibition. Visitors will be able to play and experience them personally, to learn from the impacts of games on modern culture, as well as to re-live the memorable past. Game On is supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer which is the key sponsor of the event.

In addition, to advocate a healthy game-playing attitude, Cyberport will also organize a "Game Ambassador programme", in partnership with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) & Caritas Community Centre -- Aberdeen. Young people will be recruited as Game Ambassadors to promote and arouse the public's interest in the positive gaming message. The MEGAA Power Show and a series of seminars and workshops held in August will also help reinforce positive attitudes in game playing. It's time to take your gaming to the next level!

Game On is organised and toured by the Barbican Art Gallery, London, UK, which is part of the Barbican Centre. Since its inception in 2002, Game On has achieved a great success with tours to 11 venues around the world. This is the first Game On tour in Asia and Cyberport is its first stop. What is more?
