SHANGHAI, May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Complimentary to the direction outlined by the Two Sessions for environmental protection, Touchmedia has launched the third year of Eco-Art China calling for the public to "Play with Garbage". With the support of the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, this campaign encourages people to discover the eco-friendly principles of "reduce, reuse and recycle". The Eco-Art China 2011 campaign invites people to do their part to help the environment by entering a contest to make art out of garbage. They can also join an international garbage-into-art exhibition; attend public workshops to learn how to sort garbage; or playing interactive garbage sorting games in over 12,000 Touchmedia in-taxi screens in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Entries for the Eco-Art Contest, for participants to turn their garbage into art, are open until June 30th.  Touchmedia will accept any artwork that uses garbage as its foundation, including sculpture, fashion, photography, music, video, multi-media and collage. The First Prize winner will receive 5,000 RMB and be invited to join the Green Note Qinghai trip to Banma County as part of a delegation to exchange information with local people about environmental protection. Additionally, artists from across China are invited to join artists from across the world to exhibit their works in the Autumn Eco-Art Tour at Yueda 889 Plaza, which will feature artworks made from garbage.

Helping People Play with Their Garbage

To reinforce the government's current push for citizens to sort garbage prior to discarding it, Touchmedia chose "Garbage Sorting" as the key educational aspect of the 2011 program.

The Eco-Art China 2011 campaign will be run for the next 15 weeks in Touchmedia taxis in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Inside the taxis, over 50 million people will be able to use Touchmedia interactive touch screens to learn about the program, request entry forms for the contest, view the top ranked artworks and vote for the winner. They will also be able to explore eco-initiatives in industry, play eco-educational games and download eco-wallpaper for their cell phones or computers.

China's Got Heart for Eco

Since the campaign began in 2009, over 116,000 people have requested entry forms through Touchmedia's screens, downloaded eco-wallpaper and registered for eco-prizes. Over 140,000 votes were cast to determine the 2009 and 2010 winners. Contest participants have ranged from 7 to 72 years of age and winners have come from 17 Chinese mainland cities and Taiwan, as well as Canada, Denmark, France, and Japan. Micky Fung, Founder and Chairman of Touchmedia commented, "Past results and the response to Eco-Art China prove that China's got heart for Eco! We hope that Eco-Art China will continue to contribute to China's overall efforts to promote sustainable habits at the individual, commercial and collective levels in China!"

Yang Yan, twice winner of the 2nd place, declared, "Before participating in this campaign, I never considered using 'garbage materials' for art, but now I am interested in pursuing this concept. I am really thankful that so many people voted for my eco-artwork; this whole experience helps fuel my future art life and environmental protection activities."
