"Intel offers a hardware and software environment that enables us to provide an optimized security client, tailored to take full advantage of Intel's media processing architecture," Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "We are extremely happy to be integrated into set-top boxes and other devices based on Intel's high performance platform architecture."

VCAS for IPTV is designed to take advantage of the bi-directional nature of IP networks. The software is based on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) that uses X.509 digital certificates to identify each component in the system and to securely encrypt data using public and private keys. By offering a multi-layer approach to content security, VCAS for IPTV provides encryption, conditional access, digital rights management and user-specific forensic watermarking that meets the needs of the network operator, content owner and the consumer.

"Verimatrix's track record in the IPTV industry coupled with its comprehensive experience with content security solutions will help to better address today's networks challenges, as well as those in the years ahead," said William O. Leszinske, Jr., general manager of Intel's Consumer Electronics Group. "Having an additional layer of content security at the chip level gives device manufacturers and content owners additional peace of mind that the system will be better protected."

The Intel CE 2110 Media Processor is a new system-on-a-chip (SOC) architecture that will power a new generation of devices, such as digital set-top boxes and networked media players, and bring consumers advanced in-home information and entertainment services. The highly integrated hardware and software platform will help manufacturers accelerate time to market, and develop smarter, more cost-effective consumer electronics designs that deliver advanced applications and services to consumers.
