BEIJING, September 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As the new school year in China has just begun, Yili Ark, a Beijing-based charitable organization, teamed up with Beijing Youth Lake Community and child safety education experts and volunteers to help parents and children enhance child safety awareness, including the potential dangers of sexual assault. Under the leadership of volunteers, more than 100 parents and children attended the event.
Most of the training was conducted via role play scenarios and parent-children interaction. This included games designed to test the children's responses in certain situations, including when approached by a stranger with a mobile phone.
This stranger was played by Pan Qiushi, a volunteer who has been involved with the Yili Ark Children's Safety Charity Activity for more than two years during which time he has put forward a lot of good ideas. In 2013 he was the brains behind the "Safety First and Dream Second" idea which helped educate parents and children through the power of music, and in 2014 he advised the project team to combine children safety knowledge training with local features. It is reported that more than 30 volunteers like Pan Qiushi have joined Yili Ark Program, including college students, NGO representatives and people dedicated to public benefits. Pan was the first and youngest of them all.
"I once lived in the United States and saw how children were educated about safety," said Pan. "Although as a student I can only volunteer during holidays and after school, I am dedicated to helping more children and parents improve children safety awareness through Yili Ark Public Charity Action."
"Sexual assault on children is something that causes every parent great anxiety and I worry about my daughter greatly. But honestly, I have no idea how to talk about this with her," commented one parent from Youth Lake community who attended the event. "I feel an event such as this doesn't scare children too much, but at the same time it teaches them of the dangers and potential risks that exist in society."
According to Pan, the Yili Ark Program is a start but public charity requires more innovation than adherence and only with constant innovation will public safety be further reinforced.
