SHANGHAI, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Covestro China is proud to announce that it has been certified as a Top Employer in China, winning the prestigious accolade for the first time, for its exceptional employee offerings in its largest country market.

The materials manufacturer, which became independent in 2015, was honored by the Top Employers Institute, the global HR certification company, at a gala dinner in Shanghai on December 3.

"We are very proud to be recognized as a Top Employer in China. This acknowledgement is a strong confirmation of Covestro as an employer of choice, after just three years since inception," said Bjoern Skogum, President of Covestro China. "The women and men of Covestro are our most valuable asset, and we always strive for a modern and future-oriented working environment that enables and motivates our employees to achieve their full potential."

In achieving the Top Employer certification, Covestro China's HR practices were assessed by analyzing topics ranging from talent strategy, learning and development, and performance management to compensation and benefits as well as company culture.

Multiple workplace programs

Covestro has initiated various workplace programs in China since it went independent, aiming to create an environment that empowers and develops employees.

For example, in 2017 Covestro initiated a trainee program designed to nurture a talent pipeline for core positions in production and technology, at the Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai, the company's largest production site worldwide. Successful candidates are provided with a three-year program that enables them to learn and develop via training, mentoring and job rotation, so as to fast-track their career. In another example, Covestro has been organizing the Development Forum, aimed at unlocking the employees' full potential by connecting people-development with the fast-changing business environment.  A total of 14 forums were held since October for this year's program, focusing on innovation and digitalization, across five Covestro locations in China, with both internal and external speakers.

"At Covestro, we believe it is our employees' impact that makes the difference. We will continuously strengthen people engagement, leadership development, and employee capability while building up a Covestro culture," said Lesley Lin, Head of Human Resources, Greater China, Covestro. "With this Top Employer certification, we can now better measure ourselves against other companies and excel while going forward to make Covestro an even brighter place to work."

Nicole Jin, Country Manager China for the Top Employers Institute, said, "Our certification provides the most objective recognition for participants' contribution to their people and to the business. Through this year's research, we conclude that Covestro demonstrates an outstanding talent strategy, especially their leadership development."
