Hitachi Elevator's EX-BPG escalators give new impetus to China's rail transit construction sector

KUNMING, China, July 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- According to China's 13th Five-Year Plan for Development of Modern Integrated Transportation Systems, the combined length of the routes of country's urban rail transport systems in operation will be extended to 6,000 km by 2020. As China's urban rail transport sector continues on its present course of rapid development, particularly in the metro segment, the demand for escalators is expected to grow apace.

On July 3, Hitachi Elevator (China) Co., Ltd. ("Hitachi Elevator") held the Inspiring New Momentum by Facilitating Innovation-themed 2019 Innovation Sharing Meeting in Kunming. The company shared success stories of and its excellent experience in injecting new momentum into China's rail transit construction sector with its EX-BPG series of escalators, attracting the attendees.

Hitachi Elevator has rich experience of China's rail transit construction and provided over 7,000 escalators, including more than 5,700 EX-BPG escalators (public transport escalator), for rail transit projects in 22 Chinese cities, including such major metropolises as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Wuhan, Changsha, Shenzhen and Hangzhou.

Hitachi Elevator (Guangzhou) Escalator Co., Ltd. general manager Zhong Litai said during the event that with innovations in products, digitalization and services, EX-BPG escalators are giving a new boost to China's rail transit construction sector through the introduction of leading technologies, including multi-scenario adaptability, comprehensive anti-pinch technology, a safety system that prevents unexpected sharp objects from becoming stuck in an escalator shaft and a SIL3-graded high performance electronic safety system for escalators. EX-BPG is an example of Hitachi Elevator's ongoing commitment to the development and constant improvement in products that are user-centric.

With big data a huge driver of the growth of the current economy, the combination of smart technologies and big data enables the visualized management of elevators and escalators. Given that China's urban rail transit systems have to respond to high passenger throughput and a fast-changing environment everywhere they are installed, Hitachi Elevator's visualized safety management system can intelligently detect and analyze passenger flow and predict a potential risk to passengers when they ride an escalator by using the camera to record and document changing passenger behavior. In the event riders slip and fall or become stranded, or the escalator is nearing capacity, the passenger flow analysis system will, in combination with the escalator control system, deploy the safe operation mode. Simultaneously, the systems will send the risk alert to the control center in the metro station and provide advice on evacuation of passengers and a halt to the escalator.

In addition to giving a boost to the rail transit construction sector, EX-BPG, a part of Hitachi Elevator's smart building solutions, is also empowering the scenarios where there are often more passengers than expected, such as museums, hospitals, stadiums, airports, metro stations and high-speed railway stations. As we enter an era of commercial 5G and AI deployments, both of which are providing a powerful impetus to the development of smart buildings and smart cities, Hitachi Elevator will address the demand for diversified and smart building solutions.
