SHANGHAI, July 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- In January, Kering made a donation of RMB 7.5 million to Hubei Red Cross Foundation combating COVID-19. Up to date, RMB 4.5 million was allocated to provide immediate medical supplies across 44 hospitals in Hubei province during the peak of the outbreak. Kering and Hubei Red Cross Foundation have agreed to spend the remaining donation of RMB 3 million for a series of public awareness campaigns on wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation, and educational initiatives organized by local organizations, with a focus on offline community participation in Hubei province.
The three initiatives include "Wildlife Protection" public service advertising solicitation, "Wuhan Biodiversity Citizen Education Program" and "Time Through Children's Eyes" drawing competition.
Organized by the China Advertising Association (CAA), the "Wildlife Protection" public service advertising solicitation aims to deepen the understanding of wildlife protection. Topics are around "protecting wildlife is protecting public health", "how human and wild animals shall maintain a safe distance from each other" and "protecting wildlife is protecting ourselves". Entry submission is open from 8th July to 30th September. CAA invites industry practitioners, environmental enthusiasts and the general public to submit creative and impactful entries to incorporate "wildlife protection" related laws and regulations into public service activities. The campaign encourages people to consciously raise their awareness of ecological protection and public health as well as to eliminate illegal wildlife trade and the bad habit of wild animal consumption.
Initiated by Shan Shui Conservation Center, the "Wuhan Biodiversity Citizen Education Program" promotes scientific knowledge on nature conservation and wildlife protection. It consists a series of free online classes in June and July and a range of observation activities featuring leading academics from both Peking University and the Sun Yat-sen University, as well as experts from Wildlife Conservation Society, EcoHealth Alliance and National Zoological Museum of China. The biodiversity initiative will also see nature watch reports taking place on the banks of the Yangtze River as well as guided observation of birds and plants aimed to enhance awareness of wildlife protection among the wide public.
"Time Through Children's Eyes", is inviting kids all over the world to share their stories about combating the pandemic. Organized by the Enjoy English and Music Culture Centre of Shennongjia, children are encouraged to explore inspiring themes including Humanistic Care, Healthy Life, Ecological & Environmental Protection and Growing Hope. Experts from different profession will be invited to guide and inspire the participating children.
"Kering has always been proactive in taking action to fulfill our long-term commitment to sustainability. We have a well-established commitment to both implementing strategies to minimize biodiversity loss across our supply chains and the promotion of biodiversity," explained CAI Jinqing, President of Kering Greater China. "Our partnership with Hubei Red Cross Foundation affirms our corporate social responsibility to advocate the importance of biodiversity. We hope to discover solutions how we live in harmony with the nature."
JI Hu, Secretary General of Hubei Red Cross Foundation remarked: "We were extremely appreciative of the support provided by Kering during a time of great difficulty and uncertainty earlier this year. We hope these three initiatives of "Wildlife Protection" public service advertising solicitation, "Wuhan Biodiversity Education Series" and "Time Through Children's Eyes" drawing competition will inspire community engagements to raise the health awareness of the whole society, to strengthen the awareness of wildlife conservation, and to enhance the ability to prevent and respond to public health incidents, and work for the betterment of the entire community."
