LANZHOU, China, June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2015 "Lanzhou Bank Cup" Lanzhou International Marathon began at 7:30 am on June 13. The marathon, now in its fifth year, attracted 40,029 professional and amateur marathon runners with Ethiopia's Ajara Ward Georgios claiming the men's title in two hours, 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Abdellah Taghrafet from Morocco came second in two hours, 11 minutes and 39 seconds with Kenya's Lawrence Cherono third in two hours, 12 minutes and 33 seconds. All three broke all previous records for this marathon.
Likewise the top three women, all from Kenya, also broke all previous marathon records, finishing in two hours, 31 minutes and 22 seconds, two hours, 31 minutes and 47 seconds and two hours, 32 minutes and six seconds respectively.
The race winners each received $US 34,000 in prize money, with second place earning $US 20,000 and $US 10,000 for third.
