SUZHOU, China, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- 2015 Wuzhong (Suzhou) "Around Taihu" International Race Walking and Multi-day Walking Competition will be held in Wuzhong District of Suzhou, China between September 26th and 29th, with the expected participation of over 400 professional athletes from 18 countries and regions and over 15,000 amateur walkers.
The event, with awards totaling in value up to US$300,000, combines professional sports with fitness for all. Professional athletes include IAAF World Championship Beijing 2015 women's 20km racing walk gold and silver medalists Liu Hong and Lv Xiuzhi, men's 50km racing walk silver medalist at the same event Jared Tallent of Australia and London Olympics champion Chen Dinglian. There will also be other famous athletes from China as well as from 18 countries and regions. The amateur walking events have, to date, received more than 12,000 registrations to participate in the race to the first stop at Mudu, in addition to 3,000 walkers who have signed on to continue on to the second stop at Dongshan.
Wuzhong (Suzhou) "Around Taihu" International Race Walking and Multi-day Walking Competition has now been included in the demonstration cooperative agreement between the General Administration of Sport of China and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province on establishing a public sports service system, with the intent of developing the series of walking races into a branded event. Organizers added a new element to this year's event: encouraging the participation in walking events as an expression of support for social programs that benefit the common good by teaming up with other organizations including Million Forest, Stand Up Again and Co-inclusion.
